Aquatics Manager (full-time)

POSITION SUMMARY:  

The Aquatics Manager will provide oversight for the daily operations of the aquatic center.  Responsibilities include safety, operations, programming, equipment management, and staffing for the leisure pool, locker rooms, family changing rooms, associated mechanical spaces and other areas related to the aquatic center. This position also provides seasonal oversight to the  outdoor slip n’ slide.

KEY AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITY:

  • Manage daily operations of the aquatic center.
  • Recruit, train and supervise all aquatic center employees.
  • Develop, implement and evaluate aquatic center programming.
  • Oversee key safety components of the Kroc Center.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Recreational Management, Exercise science or other relevant field preferred.
  • 3 + years management experience in aquatic setting with progressive levels of responsibility in developing, planning, managing, and supervising aquatic facilities and programs; including developing and administering budgets, staff development, membership service, and community relations.
  • Professional certifications required include: American Red Cross Lifeguard, AED, CPRPR
  • Professional certifications preferred: American Red Cross Lifeguard Instructor (LGI), Water Safety Instructor (WSI). Aquatic Facility Operator or Certified Pool Operator certification, Certified Lifeguard Instructor Trainer (LGIT), Water Safety Instructor Trainer (WSIT).

Ministries Manager (full-time)

POSITION SUMMARY:  

The Kroc Ministries Manager will coordinate the ministries of the Grand Rapids Kroc Center. Under the supervision of the Senior Kroc Officers, the Kroc Ministries Manager will plan worship services and oversee adult and senior ministries, music ministry, evangelism, discipleship, and pastoral care. This position is expected to help develop relational ministries that will encourage, equip, and engage Kroc Center users to take the next step on their spiritual journey with God. The Kroc Ministries Manager will work closely with Kroc Krew to build relationships through worship services, discipleship, outreach programs, Kroc Center presentations, and other Kroc Center congregational, educational, or recreational programs. The Kroc Ministries Manager will also assist in administrative and ministry duties and will lead the Christmas Kettle fund-raising activities relating to the development of The Salvation Army Ray and Joan Kroc Corps Community Center under the supervision of the Senior Kroc Officers.

Tumbling and Gymnastics Instructor (part-time)

POSITION SUMMARY:  

Under the direction of the Recreation Supervisor and Program Director, instructor will give instruction to students of all ages and ability levels in tumbling and gymnastics.  Design instructional programs, prepare lesson plans and instructional materials, present subject matter demonstrating proper techniques, and perform classroom management tasks.  Instructor will teach the following classes: Toddler Tumbling, Tumbling, Intro to Gymnastics, and Cheerleading.

 Personal Trainer (part-time)

POSITION SUMMARY:  

Under the direction of the Health and Wellness Manager, a Personal Trainer is responsible for providing orientation to new members, assisting members with their workouts and providing personal training services.

KEY AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITY:

  • Provide personal training to those members who purchase additional services.
  • Implement safety measures for personal training service to insure the health and safety for cliental.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • High school diploma or GED equivalency, A degree in fitness, exercise science, athletic training, physical therapy, exercise physiology or other related areas is preferred.
  • Must have a personal training certification by a national accredited organization (ACSM, NSCA, ACE or AFAA).

 Assistant Teacher – After school literacy program (part-time)

POSITION SUMMARY:  

The Assistant Teacher is responsible for assisting with the coordination and implementation of the Kroc Center’s literacy program at Brookside Elementary School. This position is a key member of the Education team and serves under the direction of the Education Manager.

Hours are Monday-Thursday from 2PM-6PM.

KEY AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITY:

  • Assist with the development, implementation, and coordination of the literacy program at Brookside School.
  • Work with Lead Teacher in the recruitment of program participants.

  • 2 + years of post high school education, elementary education preferred.

Climbing Wall Attendant (part-time)

POSITION SUMMARY:  

Under general supervision from the respective program manager, the Recreation Aide positions will be available for the following areas: Climbing Wall, Fitness Center, Gymnasium, Game Room, and outdoor Campus.  Recreation Aides will perform duties such as cleaning exercise machines and program areas, facilitating and/or assisting with programs and events, checking out/in equipment, assist with score keeping, activity and class prep & clean up for the Grand Rapids Ray and Joan Kroc Corps Community Center.

KEY AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITY:

Supervise patrons and climbing wall area

  • Provide supervision and instruction for the climbing wall during open climb and other climbing programs.
  • Provide information and answer questions about climbing hours, guidelines, programs, events and equipment.
  • Maintain cleanliness of the climbing wall area. Pick up trash and help maintain cleanliness of the general lobby and common areas.
  • Maintain accurate equipment check out and check in system
  • Track usage and complete shift checklists as assigned.

Ensure patron safety

  • Enforce all guidelines that pertain to the climbing wall a constant and consistent basis.
  • Verify climbers have a membership or purchased a daily pass.
  • Ensure climbing harness is securely fastened on climbers.
  • Attach and remove belay device to each patron.
  • Inspect routes and equipment and notify manager when repair is needed.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • A High School Diploma or equivalent is required.
  • Previous climbing experience or belaying experience is preferred.
  • Be able to read, write and communicate in English with the preferred ability to also communicate in Spanish.
  • Have CPR/AED/First Aid certification, or obtain within 45 days.

Maintenance I (part-time)

POSITION SUMMARY:  

Perform tasks that aid in the maintenance, upkeep and operations of the Kroc Center campus and facilities.

Regular work schedule will consist of 15-20 hours per week on weekdays and Saturday but may also include evenings and Sunday’s based on special events.

KEY AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITY:

  • Perform custodial duties.
  • Assist with event operations.
  • Assist with maintenance of machines and equipment.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • High school diploma and/or trade school graduation is preferred.
  • Must have at least 2 years of experience performing custodial duties and operating equipment that would be involved with the position.

Building Supervisor (part-time)

POSITION SUMMARY:  

The primary function of the Building Supervisor is to ensure a safe, secure, and customer friendly environment for staff members, volunteers, guests and visitors of the Kroc Center.

This position will be responsible for opening and closing the facility and instrumental with maintaining daily operations across all Kroc Center departments.

KEY AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITY:

  • Perform a variety of tasks including the daily facility opening and closing, maintenance and set ups.
  • Provide supervision of Kroc Center part time staff, members and guests that ensures a safe and secure facility.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • High school degree required. Higher education or Associate’s degree preferred.
  • Two years of supervisory experience is required.  Additional two year experience in safety, security or maintenance is preferred.

Gym Attendant (part-time)

POSITION SUMMARY:  

The Gym Attendant will supervise the gym, service desk, locker rooms, hallways, participants, programs and activities and enforce necessary guidelines.

Availability must be given to be considered and should be indicated based on the following shifts: Mon-Thurs 5-9 pm, Friday 4-8 pm, Saturday 1-7 pm or 2-7pm, Sunday 12pm-5pm.

  • Provide general supervision of the activity areas and participants

QUALIFICATIONS:

Welcome Desk Attendant (part-time)

POSITION SUMMARY:  

The Welcome Desk Attendant is responsible for creating exceptional customer service experiences. Primary responsibilities include selling and/or verifying memberships, program registrations, and café items through POS system as well as providing facility information, answering, and routing all incoming phone calls.

HOURS:

5:30 am – 9:30 pm weekdays and 7:00 am-8:30 pm weekend (hours vary) (Must be able to work weekdays, weekends and holidays as needed, hours of operation may vary.)

KEY AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITY:

  • Provide great customer service to the community.
  • Perform Point of Sale (POS) transactions at the front desk.
  • Perform all café, membership and front desk duties.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Lifeguard I (part-time)

POSITION SUMMARY:  

Under the supervision of the Aquatics Manager, Lifeguards will monitor activities, observe and provide assistance to swimmers, prevent accidents, protect life and enforce regulations as well as control access to pools, family locker rooms, and lockers. Provide first aid when necessary. Assist with implementation of and teach swimming lessons and other aquatics programs. Provide support for swim lessons, record keeping, lesson cards and lesson plans. This position is also required to assist with general facility maintenance and cleaning duties as assigned. Attendance at all in-service trainings required.

KEY AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITY:

  • Considerately and patiently enforce Kroc Center rules to provide a safe environment for all members, visitors, and employees. Cautions swimmers regarding unsafe areas and actions.  Maintain order in swimming areas.
  • Must be able to analyze situations and adopt a quick and effective course of action; maintain constant observation of an assigned area to identify any signs of danger.
  • Rescue swimmers in danger of drowning.
  • Provide first aid, rescue breathing and CPR when needed.
  • Inspect and maintain cleanliness of swimming pool areas, locker rooms, restrooms, trash cans, cleaning equipment, aquatic equipment storage areas, and other areas as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Must be at least 16 years of age.
  • Must be able to read, write and communicate in English. Ability to speak Spanish desired.
  • Must be able to work varied shifts including early mornings, evenings, weekends, holidays and split shifts.
  • Demonstrate the ability to relate positively and energetically with staff, clients, members and customers. Ability to be self-motivated, work independently and in a team environment. Must also have effective communication skills and engage positively with the public.
  • Must have one year experience as a lifeguard.

POSITION SUMMARY:

Under the supervision of the Aquatics Manager, Swim Instructors will assist with implementation of and teach swimming lessons and other aquatics programs. Provide support for swim lessons, record keeping, lesson cards and lesson plans. Attendance at all in-service trainings required.

KEY AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITY:

  • Instruct swimming lessons of all ages and abilities by following a structured lesson plan.

Food Service Specialist (seasonal full-time)

POSITION SUMMARY:  

The server position is an as-needed, part-time position. Servers will aid with events by traying food, filling beverages, serving food and beverages, busing tables, set-up, tear-down cleanup and other similar tasks that may be needed for a successful event.

KEY AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITY:

  • Assist with food and beverage presentation, food and beverage service, bussing, set-up, tear-down, minimal food preparation and other customer service needs.
  • Under the supervision of the Events Manager or the Kitchen Supervisor, servers interact with guests, vendors and suppliers.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Preferred experience in food service such as waitstaff/server.
