Welcome Desk Attendant (part-time, 19 hrs/wk or less)

POSITION SUMMARY

The Welcome Desk Attendant is responsible for creating exceptional customer service experiences. Primary responsibilities include selling and/or verifying memberships, program registrations, and café items through POS system as well as providing facility information, answering, and routing all incoming phone calls.

KEY AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITY:

  • Provide great customer service to the community.
  • Perform Point of Sale (POS) transactions at the Front Desk.
  • Perform all café, membership and front desk duties.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • High school diploma or GED. Minimum of 1-2 years experience in working in customer service industries.
  • Must have excellent computer skills; with working experience of Microsoft Office products. Computer database application experience helpful. Ability to use new software programs with basic training.
  • Strong communication skills.
  • Be able to read, write and communicate in English with the ability to also communicate in Spanish is strongly preferred.
  • Be able to lift and carry 40 lbs.
  • CPR, AED (Automated External Defibrillator), Safe from Harm certified within 30 days of employment.

Fitness Attendant (part-time, 19 hrs/wk or less)

POSITION SUMMARY

Under general supervision from the respective program manager, the Recreation Aide positions will be available for the following areas: Fitness Center, Gymnasium, Climbing Wall, Game Room, and outdoor Campus.  Recreation Aides will perform duties such as cleaning exercise machines and program areas, facilitating and/or assisting with programs and events, checking out/in equipment, assist with score keeping, activity and class prep & clean up for the Grand Rapids Ray and Joan Kroc Corps Community Center.

KEY AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITY:

  • Provide great customer service to the community; see that all customers, clients and members are given prompt and courteous service.
  • Maintain cleanliness of facility by cleaning equipment and fitness areas, vacuuming and sweeping.
  • Verify membership and daily pass users.
  • Maintain accurate equipment check out and check in system.
  • Provide information and answer questions about available programs.
  • Report all equipment and fitness area problems to the Health & Wellness Manager.
  • Notify members and staff when machines are out of working order or in need of repair.
  • Enforcing all rules that pertain to the fitness and exercise areas on a constant and consistent basis.
  • Adhere to RJKCCC operations as well as all policy procedures as adopted by Administration.
  • Observe all safety rules and regulations.
  • Attend staff meetings as assigned.
  • Maintain confidentiality.
  • Supervise activities in the fitness areas as assigned.
  • Other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Must be at least 18 years of age.

Gym Attendant (part-time, 19 hrs/wk or less)

POSITION SUMMARY

The Gym Attendant will supervise the gym, service desk, locker rooms, hallways, participants, programs and activities and enforce necessary guidelines.

KEY AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITY:

  • Provide general supervision of the activity areas and participants
  • Maintain the cleanliness and operation of the gym equipment

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • A High School Diploma or equivalent is required.
  • Previous experience supervising, coaching, and working with children preferred.
  • Possess an understanding of the rules and fundamentals of indoor sports such as basketball, volleyball, dodgeball, badminton, floor hockey, indoor soccer and other programs offered in the gymnasium is preferred.
  • Be able to read, write and communicate in English with the preferred ability to also communicate in Spanish.
  • Have CPR/AED/First Aid certification, or obtain within 45 days.
  • Be at least 18 years old.
  • Be able to lift and carry 40lbs.

Climbing Wall Attendant (part-time, 19 hrs/wk or less)

POSITION SUMMARY

  • Observe all safety rules and regulations.
  • Attend staff meetings as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Professional Climbing Instructor Certification (PCIA) preferred.
  • Belay certification required.
  • Minimum of six months climbing experience required.
  • Must be a reliable and competent climbing wall belayer.
  • Must be able to set routes on an indoor climbing wall.
  • Previous experience working at a climbing wall is preferred.
  • Must be able to educate members about the safety and correct execution of climbing practices and principles (knot tying, climbing commands, proper belay technique, etc.)
  • Must have experience with climbing equipment (will inspect and maintain climbing equipment.)
  • Must be at least 18 years of age.
  • High school diploma or GED equivalency.
  • Must have or be able to obtain First Aid/CPR/AED certification within the first 30 days of employment.
  • Must be able to read, write and communicate in English. Spanish preferred.

Pool Attendant (part-time, 19 hrs/wk or less)

POSITION SUMMARY:

Provide general supervision of the aquatic center and lockers rooms. Maintain the cleanliness and operation of aquatic center and locker rooms.

KEY AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITY:

  • Provide general supervision of the aquatic center and lockers rooms.
  • Provide information and answer questions about safety guidelines and available programs.
  • Safely dispatch patrons down the slide.
  • Monitor and assure proper usage of locker rooms, inner tubes, and spray pad area.
  • Maintain accurate headcounts.
  • Report all equipment and aquatic related problems to the Aquatics Manager.
  • Enforce all safety guidelines that pertain to the aquatic center and locker rooms on a constant and consistent basis.
  • Notify members and staff when pool is closed for contamination or power outage.
  • Assist with swimming tests as needed.
  • Ensure participants under 18 years of age are wearing wristbands.
  • Ensure children under the age of 12 have proper adult supervision.
  • Maintain the cleanliness and operation of the aquatic center and locker rooms.
  • Maintain cleanliness of the aquatic area and locker rooms by picking up trash, cleaning equipment and following shift procedures.
  • Report all equipment breakdowns according to the stated procedure.
  • Enforce all facility safety rules and regulations.
  • Collect and manage the Lost and Found.
  • Other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Be at least 18 years old.

Maintenance I ( part-time, 25 hrs/wk or less)

POSITION SUMMARY:

Perform tasks that aid in the maintenance, upkeep and operations of the Kroc Center campus and facilities. Regular work schedule will consist of 25 hours per week on weekdays and Saturday but may also include evenings and Sunday’s based on special events.

KEY AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITY:

  • Perform custodial duties.
  • Assist with event operations.
  • Assist with maintenance of machines and equipment.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • High school diploma and/or trade school graduation is preferred.
  • Must have at least 2 years of experience performing custodial duties and operating equipment that would be involved with the position.
  • Be able to read, write and communicate in English with the preferred ability to also communicate in Spanish.
  • Have CPR/AED/First Aid certification or obtain within 45 days.
  • Be at least 18 years old.
  • Physically be able to perform the following:
  • Ability to kneel, squat, bend, lift, climb, and stand for prolonged periods of time;

Campus Supervisor (seasonal, part-time, 19 hrs/wk or less)

POSITION SUMMARY:

The primary job of the Campus Supervisor is to provide a safe, secure, and customer friendly outdoor environment for members and guests of the Kroc Center by enforcing guidelines, protecting the Kroc Center’s physical assets and maintaining the daily outdoor facility and program operations.

KEY AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITY:

  • Supervise outdoor recreation programs, rentals and spaces.
  • Interact professionally with the general public and rental groups who are utilizing the Kroc Center outdoor campus.
  • Enforce safety guidelines throughout the campus in a consistent and respectful manner.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Must have a high school diploma or GED equivalency.
  • Proven ability to relate to and engage youth (especially ages 12 to 20)
  • Be able to read, write and communicate in English with the preferred ability to also communicate in Spanish.
  • Have a valid driver’s license.
  • Have CPR/AED/First Aid certification, or obtain within 30 days.
  • Complete Safe From Harm training within 30 days of employment.

Youth Development Team Member (part-time, 19 hrs/wk or less)

POSITION SUMMARY:

Youth Development Krew Member is responsible for the direct supervision of the children in Child Watch areas throughout the facility (Clubhouse, Hangout/Game room, Classrooms, Playground), with emphasis on safety and developmental activities that will ensure a quality experience during a child’s stay.

KEY AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITY:

  • Responsible for the safety, supervision and active entertainment of all children placed in Child Watch areas while parents/guardians are participating in Kroc Center activities.
  • Will assist and work under the supervision of the Youth Development Supervisor.
  • Interact professionally with all contacts, as required, with the general public, parents/guardians, business community, Salvation Army Officers and Kroc Center staff.
  • Follow and ensure adherence to The Salvation Army Policies and Procedures.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Must have two years experience working with children and infants.
  • Complete the standard Safe from Harm Training course as prescribed by The Salvation Army within 30 days.
  • Computer knowledge helpful but not necessary.
  • Be able to read, write and communicate in English with the preferred ability to also communicate in Spanish.
  • Have or be able to obtain CPR/AED/First Aid certification within the first 30 days of employment.
  • Be at least 18 years old.

  • Must be at least 18 years of age.
  • High school diploma or GED equivalency.
  • Current certifications through ACE, ACSM, AFAA or NSCA or any unique certifications pertaining to a specialized group exercise class and/or format.
  • A minimum of one (1) year experience teaching various or specific group exercise programs.
  • Current First Aid, CPR and AED preferred.
  • Excellent communication and leadership skills.
  • Must be able to read, write and communicate in English. The ability to speak Spanish desired.
  • Must have physical ability to instruct appropriate classes; for specific class requirements as outlined by industry standards of certifications and or training including but not limited to, yoga, kickboxing, cycling, weight training, aquatics, etc. These physical requirements include but are not limited to, bending, lifting, pushing, and carrying up to 40 lbs, rhythmic limbering, held isometric poses, kicks, punches, stretching, choreographed movement and calisthenics, etc.

Under the supervision of the Aquatics Manager, Lifeguards will monitor activities, observe and provide assistance to swimmers, prevent accidents, protect life and enforce regulations as well as control access to pools, family locker rooms, and lockers.  Provide first aid when necessary.  Assist with implementation of and teach swimming lessons and other aquatics programs.  Provide support for swim lessons, record keeping, lesson cards and lesson plans.  This position is also required to assist with general facility maintenance and cleaning duties as assigned.  Attendance at all in-service trainings required.

KEY AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITY:

  • Considerately and patiently enforce RJKCCC rules to provide a safe environment for all members, visitors, and employees.  Cautions swimmers regarding unsafe areas and actions.  Maintain order in swimming areas.
  • Must be able to analyze situations and adopt a quick and effective course of action; maintain constant observation of an assigned area to identify any signs of danger.
  • Rescue swimmers in danger of drowning.
  • Provide first aid, rescue breathing and CPR when needed.
  • Inspect and maintain cleanliness of swimming pool areas, locker rooms, restrooms, trash cans, cleaning equipment, aquatic equipment storage areas, and other areas as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Must be at least 16 years of age.
  • Must be able to read, write and communicate in English. Ability to speak Spanish desired.
  • Must be able to work varied shifts including early mornings, evenings, weekends, holidays and split shifts.
  • Demonstrate the ability to relate positively and energetically with staff, clients, members and customers.  Ability to be self-motivated, work independently and in a team environment.  Must also have effective communication skills and engage positively with the public.
  • Must have one year experience as a lifeguard.
  • Must have one year experience teaching swim lessons.
  • Lifeguard training (must include Standard First Aid). American Red Cross certifications are required before start of employment.
  • American Red Cross CPR and First Aid for the Professional Rescuer.  AED certification highly desirable.
  • American Red Cross Water Safety Instructor (WSI) certification required, or ability to receive within six months.
  • American Red Cross Oxygen Administration certification highly desirable.

Swim Instructor (part-time)

POSITION SUMMARY:

The Swim Instructor is responsible for providing instructional swim lessons for infants, preschool, youth and/or adult participants. The position is responsible for providing safe, instructional swim lessons using the American Red Cross Learn to Swim program. Class sizes will range from 2 to 6 students. Class participants age range between Parent-Tot classes through adults. Classes are held Monday, Tuesday and Thursday evenings, and Saturday mornings. Lessons are approximately 45 minutes in length. The instructor will be required to be in the water for the entire class.

Key Areas of Responsibility:

  • Coordinate the design and planning swim lesson curriculum for all levels and populations using the American Red Cross Learn to Swim program.
  • Coordinate the preparation of progressive lesson plans to enhance the experience of program participants.
  • Collaborate with other swim instructors to ensure class continuity.
  • Enforce aquatic rules and policies by maintaining constant surveillance of class participants.
  • Assist in recording and maintaining attendance records.
  • Set up facility or equipment, store equipment, and secure facility upon completion of class.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • Must be 16+ years old
  • Have experience aiding/teaching swim lessons
  • Must be proficient in swimming and safety skills
  • Must be mentally capable to handle dangerous situations in order to assure the safety of all swimmers
  • Must be physically and mentally able to respond to emergencies and administer CPR and First Aid effectively
  • Physical mobility to properly use aquatic equipment to rescue a 200lbs. person is essential
  • Certifications Required: Water Safety Instructor certification or at least 2 years of experience AND current CPR certification (life-guarding certification preferred, but not required).

Server (part-time)

POSITION SUMMARY:  

The server position is an as-needed, part-time position. Servers will aid with events by traying food, filling beverages, serving food and beverages, busing tables, set-up, tear-down cleanup and other similar tasks that may be needed for a successful event.

KEY AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITY:

  • Assist with food and beverage presentation, food and beverage service, bussing, set-up, tear-down, minimal food preparation and other customer service needs.
  • Under the supervision of the Events Manager or the Kitchen Supervisor, servers interact with guests, vendors and suppliers.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Preferred experience in food service such as wait staff/server.
  • Ability to act quickly and accurately on verbal and/or written instructions.
  • Good communication skills.
  • Comfortable in public settings.
  • Good intuition regarding how much/little to interact with guests.
  • Be able to read, write and communicate in English with the preferred ability to also communicate in Spanish.
  • Be at least 18 years old.
  • Be able to lift and carry up to 40lbs.
