Aquatics Manager (full-time)

POSITION SUMMARY:

The Aquatics Manager will provide oversight for the daily operations of the aquatic center.  Responsibilities include safety, operations, programming, equipment management, and staffing for the leisure pool, locker rooms, family changing rooms, associated mechanical spaces and other areas related to the aquatic center.

KEY AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITY:

  1. Manage daily operations of the aquatic center.
  2. Recruit, train and supervise all aquatic center employees.
  3. Develop, implement and evaluate aquatic center programming.
  4. Oversee key safety components of the Kroc Center.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. Bachelor’s Degree in Recreational Management, Exercise science or other relevant field preferred. 
  2. 3 + years management experience in aquatic setting with progressive levels of responsibility in developing, planning, managing, and supervising aquatic facilities and programs; including developing and administering budgets, staff development, membership service, and community relations.
  3. Professional certifications required include: Aquatic Facility Operator or Certified Pool Operator certification, American Red Cross Lifeguard, AED, CPRPR, American Red Cross Lifeguard Instructor (LGI), Water Safety Instructor (WSI).
  4. Professional certification preferred: Certified Lifeguard Instructor Trainer (LGIT), Water Safety Instructor Trainer (WSIT)
  5. Have a working knowledge of Microsoft programs, including Word, PowerPoint and Excel.
  6. Be able to read, write and communicate in English with the preferred ability to also communicate in Spanish.
  7. Have CPR/AED/First Aid certification, or obtain within 45 days.
  8. Be able to lift and carry 40lbs.
  9. Must be able to be mobile for long periods of time.

Climbing Wall Attendant (part-time)

POSITION SUMMARY:

Under general supervision from the respective program manager, the Recreation Aide positions will be available for the following areas: Fitness Center, Gymnasium, Climbing Wall, Game Room, and outdoor Campus.  Recreation Aides will perform duties such as cleaning exercise machines and program areas, facilitating and/or assisting with programs and events, checking out/in equipment, assist with score keeping, activity and class prep & clean up for the Grand Rapids Ray and Joan Kroc Corps Community Center.

KEY AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITY:

  1. Provide great customer service to the community; see that all customers, clients and members are given prompt and courteous service.
  2. Perform participant safety orientation.
  3. Perform belaying testing for interested parties.
  4. Train all interested participants to climb safely.
  5. Supervise all climbers for safe practices.
  6. May teach climbing skills classes.
  7. Verify membership and daily pass users. 
  8. Provide information and answer questions about available programs.
  9. Report all equipment problems to the Recreation Supervisor.
  10. Enforce all rules that pertain to the climbing wall on a constant and consistent basis.
  11. Adhere to RJKCCC operations as well as all policy procedures as adopted by Administration.
  12. Provide overall supervision of climbing wall during hours of operation.
  13. Observe all safety rules and regulations.
  14. Attend staff meetings as assigned. 

QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. Professional Climbing Instructor Certification (PCIA) preferred.
  2. Belay certification required.
  3. Minimum of six months climbing experience required.
  4. Must be a reliable and competent climbing wall belayer.
  5. Must be able to set routes on an indoor climbing wall.
  6. Previous experience working at a climbing wall is preferred.
  7. Must be able to educate members about the safety and correct execution of climbing practices and principles (knot tying, climbing commands, proper belay technique, etc.)
  8. Must have experience with climbing equipment (will inspect and maintain climbing equipment.)
  9. Must be at least 18 years of age.
  10. High school diploma or GED equivalency.
  11. Must have or be able to obtain First Aid/CPR/AED certification within the first 30 days of employment.
  12. Must be able to read, write and communicate in English. Spanish preferred.
  13. Have a working knowledge of Microsoft programs, including Word, PowerPoint and Excel preferred. 
  14. Have the ability to work and relate well with people.
  15. Be able to lift and carry 40 lbs.

Middle School Assistant Teacher (Temporary part-time)

POSITION SUMMARY:

Under the direction of the Education Manager, the Middle School Assistant Teacher will assist in our summer learning program. They will be responsible for helping to prepare lesson plans and instructional materials, and perform classroom management tasks.  This position is part-time and will last the duration of the 6 week program (June 17-July 25).

KEY AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITY:

  1. Assist the Teacher in all activities
  2. Help maintain accurate records of student achievement and attendance.
  3. Accompany students on weekly field trips.
  4. Implement safety measure for classes to insure the health and safety of class participants.
  5. Ensure that the ultimate goal of spiritual, emotional and physical regeneration of all people in represented and infused in all programs, trainings, customer relations, and levels of operation.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. Relevant teaching or classroom experience or education
  2. Certification or a degree in related field or level of expertise required.
  3. Where applicable, must have up to date personal insurance prior to employment.
  4. Must have strong organizational skills and abilities.

AV Tech (part-time)

POSITION SUMMARY:

The AV Tech is responsible for the operation and management of all audio/video equipment within The Salvation Army Ray & Joan Kroc Corps Community Center to include hardware, software, administration of equipment, and associated staff training.  This position is scheduled based on events as needed.  Day time availability is currently needed from 6am to 4pm.

  1. Audio Components
  2. Video Components
  3. Administration of Equipment
  4. Connectivity of Equipment within the Building
  5. Assisting the IT Manager
  6. Support and Training

QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. Associates Degree in information technology is preferred.
  2. Preferred three year prior experience with AV Equipment.
  3. Certified in CPR, First Aid and AED Use.
  4. Be able to read, write and communicate in English with the ability to communicate in Spanish.
  5. Be able to lift and carry 40 lbs.
  6. Be at least 21 years old.
  7. Successfully complete Safe from Harm training as established by the Salvation Army.

 Event Host (part-time)

POSITION SUMMARY:

The Event Host is responsible for all aspects of an assigned event from set up, to greeting the guests, coordinating the food service, managing the itinerary, and making sure all areas are closed and secure after the event.

  7. Notify members and staff when machines are out of working order or in need of repair.
  8. Enforcing all rules that pertain to the fitness and exercise areas on a constant and consistent basis.
  9. Adhere to RJKCCC operations as well as all policy procedures as adopted by Administration.
  10. Observe all safety rules and regulations.
  11. Attend staff meetings as assigned.
  12. Maintain confidentiality.
  13. Supervise activities in the fitness areas as assigned.
  14. Other duties as assigned.

Server (part-time as needed)

POSITION SUMMARY:

The server position is an as-needed, part-time position. Servers will aid with events by traying food, filling beverages, serving food and beverages, busing tables, set-up, tear-down cleanup and other similar tasks that may be needed for a successful event.

KEY AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITY:

  1. Assist with food and beverage presentation, food and beverage service, bussing, set-up, tear-down, minimal food preparation and other customer service needs.
  2. Under the supervision of the Events Manager or the Kitchen Supervisor, servers interact with guests, vendors and suppliers.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. Preferred experience in food service such as wait staff/server.
  2. Ability to act quickly and accurately on verbal and/or written instructions.
  3. Good communication skills.
  4. Comfortable in public settings.
  5. Good intuition regarding how much/little to interact with guests.
  6. Be able to read, write and communicate in English with the preferred ability to also communicate in Spanish.
  7. Be at least 18 years old.
  8. Be able to lift and carry up to 40lbs.

Swim Instructor (part-time)

Position Summary:

The Swim Instructor is responsible for providing instructional swim lessons for infants, preschool, youth and/or adult participants. The position is responsible for providing safe, instructional swim lessons using the American Red Cross Learn to Swim program. Class sizes will range from 2 to 6 students. Class participants age range between Parent-Tot classes through adults. Classes are held Monday, Tuesday and Thursday evenings, and Saturday mornings. Lessons are approximately 45 minutes in length. The instructor will be required to be in the water for the entire class.

Key Areas of Responsibility:

  1. Coordinate the design and planning swim lesson curriculum for all levels and populations using the American Red Cross Learn to Swim program.
  2. Coordinate the preparation of progressive lesson plans to enhance the experience of program participants.
  3. Collaborate with other swim instructors to ensure class continuity.
  4. Enforce aquatic rules and policies by maintaining constant surveillance of class participants.
  5. Assist in recording and maintaining attendance records.
  6. Set up facility or equipment, store equipment, and secure facility upon completion of class.
  7. Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

  1. Must be 16+ years old
  2. Have experience aiding/teaching swim lessons
  3. Must be proficient in swimming and safety skills
  4. Must be mentally capable to handle dangerous situations in order to assure the safety of all swimmers
  5. Must be physically and mentally able to respond to emergencies and administer CPR and First Aid effectively
  6. Physical mobility to properly use aquatic equipment to rescue a 200lbs. person is essential
  7. Certifications Required: Water Safety Instructor certification or at least 2 years of experience AND current CPR certification (life-guarding certification preferred, but not required).
