The Kroc Center has just as much to do outside on its 20-acre campus as it does inside the 105,000-square foot facility. A beautiful, park-like setting encourages guests to spend time outdoors utilizing features such as the amphitheater, basketball courts, skating rink, slidding hill, playground, community gardens, fishing pond, softball and soccer fields, and walking paths.
A 500-person amphitheater surrounded by a living wall of rose bushes accommodates concerts, movies, weddings and many other special events. An outdoor fireplace and portable heating stations warm up the space during cooler weather events.
|Basketball Court & Ice Rink
This multi-purpose space has some of the best outdoor basketball courts in Grand Rapids. When the temperature dips below freezing, the courts are transformed into an outdoor ice rink for all to enjoy.
|Sledding Hill & Slip & Slide
Our sledding hill provides winter and summer fun. To help folks beat the summer heat, we set up a giant slip & slide – free for everyone! And when the snow begins to fall, the hill provides the perfect sledding spot.
The playground is a place for families to play, relax, or enjoy a snack on the many picnic benches that surround the area. The signature “Table and Chairs” sculpture, donated by a local artist, provides shade over the giant sandbox.
Want to grow vegetables but don’t have the space in your yard? Rent one of the 24 garden plots on site at the Kroc Center. We also offer gardening workshops to help you hone your skills.
Our 9-foot-deep pond is a great place for children to learn how to fish. The catch & release guideline ensures there will always be plenty of fish to catch.
|Soccer Fields, Softball Diamond
and Walking Path
Two regulation-size soccer fields and a softball diamond occupy the vast majority of our outdoor space. Meandering through this space is a walking path called the “Prayer Walk” that is sheltered by the trees. The path winds along Plaster Creek with several benches available to sit and relax.
